In a company with more than a quarter of a million employees, finding the right colleague with the expertise for your particular project can be a daunting challenge. At Big Spaceship, I was part of a small team that helped HP find a better way for employees to connect with each other across a truly global company.
To replace the dozens of disconnected platforms that had sprung up within far-flung business units, we designed a completely custom application within a unique set of technical constraints. To reach the broadest internal audience, we had to build on top of HP’s most widely used platform, Microsoft SharePoint, and achieve an identical user experience and feature set on browsers from IE7 to Mobile Safari.
Designing a new product from scratch for an internal audience was a chance for my team to take a very user-centric approach. I contributed to user research interviews and UX design sessions before building and refining a functional prototype with documented integration points for the SharePoint backend developers.
